Why is
thinking hard?

We are interested in thinking: what it is, how it works, and especially, why it’s hard.

Inside the Visual Thinking Lab

How we think about thinking

In the Visual Thinking Lab, we tend to focus on visual thinking—which to us just means when people use visual information to solve a problem or answer a question.

But in the broadest terms, we want to understand how the mind describes the world—the representations it builds—and how it uses those representations—how it computes—to discover solutions.
